Tattoo Aftercare

A new tattoo is an open wound and requires specific care in order to prevent infection while your tattoo is healing. Proper aftercare will ensure that your tattoo heals well and will look the best it can and stay that way for a long time. If the Saniderm bandage applied irritates your skin, or you find that you are allergic to it, please follow the Without Saniderm instructions below. Keep in mind that all tattoos fade over time, and due to the nature of fine line tattoos, touchups will more than likely be necessary.

WITH SANIDERM:

Saniderm, or a second skin product, will be applied after your fine line tattoo is completed. The covering should remain on the tattoo for at least 24 hours, unless you have a reaction to the saniderm.

  • The saniderm covering can stay on the tattoo for 3-5 days. It is ok to shower with it on.

  • On the last day, slowly remove the saniderm and wash the area with a gentle cleanser and apply lotion.

WITHOUT SANIDERM:

  • Leave the covering on the new tattoo for at least 1-2 hours. After removing the covering, discard it. Cleanse thoroughly with a gentle soap, pat dry and then apply a VERY thin layer of aftercare salve or a product like aquaphor on the tattoo.

  • Cleanse and apply aftercare two times per day for the first 3-4 weeks.

  • During the first 2 weeks DO NOT scratch the tattoo, swim, soak in a hot tub, take a bath (shower only), sunbathe, tan or introduce anything that could cause an infection.

  • Wear loose clothing during the healing period
